ECRIC have been working with individual Trusts and Cancer Networks to get Pathology, PAS and MDT data sent in electronically on a monthly basis to improve both data quality and ascertainment. In order to support Trusts with this process, ECRIC has invested in a software programme called InstantAtlas™.
This programme allows the return of almost real-time data back to clinicians, within one calendar month of receiving the data for pathology and slightly longer for MDT data (to ensure as complete a record as possible), so they can visualise their data completeness and improve data quality. The data is split into three InstantAtlas™ reports: Pathology data received each month, MDT data completeness and Patients discussed at MDT. These reports allow users to monitor data completeness and therefore data quality. Trusts can also compare their data with other Trusts within the region and some cancer groupings have been split out of the generic MDT data to allow more detailed visualisation.
An example of the pathology report is shown above, demonstrating the easy way Trusts can see the number of new cases diagnosed each month compared to other Trusts within the region.
Discussions and demonstration of the InstantAtlas™ reports across the region have engaged both Clinicians and Cancer Networks. Already the quantity and quality of the data received is improving and the Trusts are taking more ownership of their data.
It is anticipated that the InstantAtlas™ reports will evolve over time to reflect what the clinicians need and to accurately display the data.
